York Avenue Preschool

• How do I get an application?
Applications are available the day after Labor Day. You may request one by phone, 212-734-0922. We do not acknowledge email requests.
• When can I tour the school?
School tours are given once an application has been submitted. You must call to verify your application has been received, than a tour can be scheduled.
• How do I schedule a child visit?
A school tour is just for the prospective parents. At the end of the tour, parents can schedule a playgroup for their child. The playgroup is approximately a half hour and one or both parents may attend.
• What age can my child start preschool?
The youngest age that the preschool offers enrollment is 2 years and 3 months for the Young Twos class.
• Does my child have to be potty trained to start school?
Our Three and Four year old students do need to be toilet trained by September of the year they start.
• How is separation handled?
In the Two’s it is a very gentle and slow process. We gradually separate over an 8 week period where the class schedule is abbreviated while the children get comfortable in their classroom. Parents are encouraged to lengthen the time they spend out of the room until separation is complete. Each child separates differently, so there is no set time put on their separation.

The Three’s have the first few days of school shortened and than a full schedule begins. We recommend that the Three’s have prior separation through a program or summer camp before fall to ease the transition into school.
• Following Four’s/Pre-K, what schools do the students attend?
Our students attend some of the finest private schools in the city. Please visit our page, Learning for Tomorrow, to see a complete list. Also, many of our students attend the Board of Education Gifted and Talented (G&T) programs, CUNY Hunter College G&T program as well as neighborhood schools.

Watching our students grow and blossom is one of the great joys of teaching. Our responsibilities as educators are to prepare our children to leave the school with a love of learning.
